Founded in Eminence, Mo. in November, 1931. The Hillcrofters were organized and combined with the Ozarkians which had also been fathered by Otto Rayburn in 1928 in Kingston, Ark. After a few years the Society of Ozarkian Hillcrofters had grown to a membership of hundreds, with several members in foreign countries. The mission of The Society of Ozarkian Hillcrofters is to preserve the traditions, history, and natural environment of the Ozarks through conservation, restoration, publications, and education. Membership in the Society of Ozarkian Hillcrofters is open to anyone that is interested in contributing to one or more of the five missions of the Hillcrofters, and those who are interested in the Ozarks.
